4th May 2008 - Last Night At The Proms

25th Anniversary of Weir Preservation Trust

Wetherby & District Silver Band

6.00 p.m. until 8.00 p.m.

Concerts every Sunday throughout the summer - 2.30 until 4.30 p.m. - see schedule below

Wetherby is very proud to have it's own Bandstand in a picturesque setting alongside the river Wharfe. The bandstand was built  with money raised by the people of Wetherby and completed in the year 2000. The late Colin Wardman MBE, a former president of the Wetherby Silver Band, played a major role in both the fundraising and the construction of the bandstand, along with the former President, Bill Gray. Of course they were assisted by many other volunteers from around the area.

The Bandstand is maintained and run by the Wetherby Riverside Bandstand Trust, who organise a full concert programme of Brass Bands to play on the Bandstand every Sunday from May to September. The quality of bands that play on the bandstand is remarkably high, and to attract good bands they are each paid a fee of £140, and the band keeps any collection they make on the day.

To cover some of the income for a season of bandstand concerts, supporters of the bandstand are invited to become 'Friends of the Bandstand', sending a donation to the secretary (address below). The trust can also reclaim the tax you pay on your donation. If you wish for your donation to be 'gift-aided' to the trust, please indicate this when sending your donation.
